Morning Impressions

This delightful photo was shot at the Houston Arboretum after a runny morning! The sky was still a bit overcast and the dewdrops hadn't had time to evaporate. I was shooting through some weeds to capture the mid-level depth of focus and the light came through soft and ethereal.

Here is a close up my friend wanted of the reflection in the dewdrop.

Here are some members of the Northwest Houston Photography Club at the reception Friday for the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts fall exhibits where our group's Texana exhibit is showing. And also a shot of me with my photo. We had a fabulous time enjoying our photos, the buffet, and a gorgeous exhibit of art quilts in the next room. Our color exhibit goes up in a week at the Barbara Bush Library!

Fairy Toadstool

This wonderful image was captured after a bit of rain in Houston. Down one of the nature trails at the Houston Arboretum, I ran across this mushroom peaking at me from under a tree. It required me to get wet and dirty to have the best camera angle, but it was worth it for this gem!

Sun Bathing

This delightful flower was found in a small flower space next to the Nature Center at the Houston Arboretum. The sunlight brings out the veins in the petals which brings to mind insect wings. A few petals are missing and one is curled back around the base to lend this flower its own unique signature look.

I normally work with individual flowers but this grouping on sunflowers caught my eye at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. Another reason I like this shot is the presence of the dead flowers as well as the live ones - just how nature would have things and not tidied up for the garden visitors.

I never tire of getting out early and working with the morning light. It brings out so many details than can easily be missed at other times of the day. Continuing my Behind the Scenes portfolio of flowers at the Houston Arboretum.
